A new weight loss treatment called Tirzepatide (Mounjaro) will start being used by the NHS from 23 June. But it won’t be offered in all GP practices or be available straight away.
Only people who meet the criteria below will be able to get it on prescription. Please don’t arrange an appointment to ask for Mounjaro for weight loss if you do not meet the criteria.
The local guidance for prescribing Mounjaro for weight loss from GP surgeries is not yet finalised. We will let you know when it is. We do know that only the following group of people will be eligible during the first year. These are nationally set criteria and we will not be able to change these. We will let you know when we have further information.
You must have a BMI of 40 or more and 4 confirmed diagnoses of the following 5 health related problems:
* Type 2 Diabetes
* Hypertension
* Heart Disease
* Obstructive Sleep Apnoea
* Dyslipidaemia / Abnormal Blood Fats
